Inspired by Gospel values and our baptismal call, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organization that ministers to the poor in parishes throughout the world. Each Vincentian is called to see the face of Christ in the faces of those who are suffering and has a ready answer to the question “When did we see You, Lord?” Men and women join together in prayer to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder Frederic Ozanam and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. The local chapter at St. Albert’s meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:30p.m. in the Parish Center. Volunteers are critically needed to serve the increasing number of poor and suffering in our area. The society helps the poor and those with temporary needs. It is not a social service agency. For more information about the society and its founder go to www.svdpuscouncil.org. The Scriptures call us to fulfill our baptismal call. In Micah 6:8 we are called to act justly, to love goodness, and walk humbly with our God. Furthermore, in Isaiah 58: 6-14 we are called to set free those captive by poverty, injustice, and hunger. To share whatever we have with those in need in order to restore and renew our relationship with God. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ links the Old with the New and extends the servant model of His church with His new commandment “I give you a new commandment: love one another…this is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34). To know God is to love one another for in the poor and suffering we are challenged to see the face of Jesus Christ. Are you a naturally caring, compassionate and giving person? Were you blessed with parents and other role models in life from whom you learned that the joy of living is in giving. Come join us and share your gifts with others. Each of us has a special gift and we are called to share God’s gifts. Please walk with us on a spiritual journey along the path shown us by Jesus Christ. |
